Exports and Genetic Sales
As part of doing business ABS becomes engaged in exports of semen and embryos. ABS exports around 50 shipments per year and for many years have been, by far, the largest exporter of embryos from New Zealand. Over the years 2005 – 2007 ABS exported between 6000 and 8000 embryos per year compared with the rest of NZ exporting a few hundred more. ABS maintains various general and country specific approvals for export including EU, China and Chile and all other countries that NZ is able to export to. ABS has a well developed infrastructure for exporting.
Part of exports is responding to demand for genetic material from NZ. ABS has extensive close connections within the NZ livestock sector and frequently sources genetics according to requirements.
